Young Makers: The Hand-Crafted Tote Bag (Ages 11–14) Workshop

Maximum Class Size: 6

Introduce your young creator to the world of textiles in this hands‑on, skill‑building workshop. In this 2.5‑hour session, Young Makers take greater ownership of the design process—selecting fabrics, pinning patterns, and developing confident hand‑stitching techniques as they craft their own personalised tote bag.

To support their growing abilities, students are introduced to the sewing machine and, depending on their confidence and readiness, may use it together with a professional adult. This guided, hands‑on approach allows them to learn safe machine operation while still ensuring complete supervision. Every student leaves with a functional, handmade tote and a solid foundation for more advanced sewing projects.

What to Expect: Safety & Skill Building

Creative Hand‑Work: Young Makers complete all creative steps—from fabric layout and pinning to decorative hand‑stitching—building precision and confidence.

Guided Machine Use: Students may sew selected seams on the machine side‑by‑side with a professional adult, ensuring full safety while giving them real experience with machine stitching.

The “Pro” Finish: Any remaining structural seams are completed by the instructor to guarantee durability and a polished result.

Machine Introduction: Students learn about machine mechanics, speed control, and essential safety protocols through both guided use and observation.

A Safe, Supportive Environment: Young Makers are taught the “Couture Way”—patience, accuracy, and safety at every stage.
