Young Makers: The Custom Cushion Workshop (Ages 11–14)
Maximum Class Size: 6
Give your child the opportunity to design and create a unique piece of home décor. In this 2.5‑hour workshop, Young Makers develop core skills in fabric assembly and stuffing techniques while crafting their own soft, personalized cushion, with guidance tailored to their age and ability.
What the Students Do
Design & Layout: Choose front and back panels from our curated selection of studio fabrics. Hand‑Stitching & Embellishment: Practise essential hand‑stitches to add initials, shapes, or decorative details. Assembly: Pin fabrics right‑sides together and prepare the opening for the cushion fill.
The Safety-First Approach
Guided Machine Use: Depending on each child’s ability and confidence, they may use the sewing machine under the close supervision of a professional adult to ensure complete safety. Expert Finishing: For students not yet ready for machine work, the instructor completes the final seams on a professional machine to guarantee a durable, “pillow‑fight ready” finish. Observational Learning: All students observe the “pivot and turn” technique from a safe distance, gaining insight into how professional textile pieces are constructed.
